The University of Kentucky men?s golf team stands tied for eighth place at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The Wildcats slipped two spots after firing a second-round score of 308 (+25) to give them a two-day total of 601, 13 strokes behind Alabama who leads the 17-team field with a +12 of 588 at Sawgrass Country Club.
Senior John Holmes continues to lead the Wildcats and is currently tied for 12th overall with a score of 148 (70-78). Junior Matt Kohn is now tied with Holmes at the 12-spot after shooting a second-round 76, while senior Mark Blakefield and sophomore Cale Barr each posted scores of 77 to stand at 42nd and 44th, respectively. Senior Brandon Waldrop finished the second day of play with a total score of 159 (76-83).
Alabama leads the field with one round to play, followed by UCLA (+16) and South Carolina (+16) who are tied for second place. Florida (+18) is currently fourth, while LSU (+19) holds the fifth spot through two rounds.
The third and final round is set to begin Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 AM.
