The Kentucky gymnastics squad begins a two-meet road swing as it travels to Gainesville, Fla., to face the No. 6 Florida Gators on Friday in the Stephen C. O?Connell Center. Meet time is set for 7 p.m.
The Wildcats (4-5, 0-5 Southeastern Conference) are coming off of a strong showing against No. 3 LSU after posting a 195.550, the eighth highest team score in school history. UK senior Michelle Gales finished second in the all-around with a 38.850 score and junior Lucy Burgin was third with a 38.400 mark on the four events.
?We are going to use our strong score against LSU as a base score for our future meets and continue to build from there,? UK head coach Mo Muhammad said. ?With this score we can go to Florida with more confidence.?
The Gators (9-2, 4-1 SEC) have won five consecutive dual meets and are coming off a 196.450-195.475 win over No. 11 Arkansas last Friday night. Florida sophomore All-American Katie Rue won her first collegiate all-around title Friday with a total of 39.175 while teammate Breanne King was second at 39.150.
Florida defeated Kentucky 197.250-194.700 last season in Memorial Coliseum.
Following Friday?s meet at Florida, the Cats travel to Lincoln, Neb., for a quad meet with Auburn, Denver and host Nebraska. Meet time is set for 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.
