LEXINGTON, Ky.?The Kentucky Gymnastics squad competes in its second meet in three days as the Wildcats travel to Lincoln, Neb., to compete in the Masters Classic with No. 20 Auburn, No. 10 Denver and the host team, No. 5 Nebraska. Meet time is set for 3 p.m. EST in the Bob Devaney Sports Center and live stats will be available on ukathletics.com.
The Wildcats (4-6, 0-6 Southeastern Conference) are coming off a 196.925-193.150 loss to No. 6 Florida on Friday in Gainesville, Fla. UK senior Michelle Gales finished third in the all-around competition with a 37.825 mark to pace the Cats. The Wildcats scored an event-high 48.925 on their patented floor exercises in the Florida meet. Gales led UK with a 9.875 on floor while sophomore Rachel Riley posted a 9.8. Sophomore Krystle Cook and freshman Kristen O?Shields also had strong performances, with 9.775 showings on floor.
Host Nebraska (3-4) is coming off a win over then No. 1 Utah 196.650-196.600 last Sunday. Freshman Emily Parsons captured two event titles and tied senior Richelle Simpson for second-place honors in the all-around with a score of 39.475. The Huskers have won 54 consecutive home meets.
Denver (7-5) is coming off a narrow 196.000-195.650 victory over 19th-ranked Minnesota last weekend. The Pioneers set a season-high team score of 196.000, Denver’s highest team score since March 15, 2003. Pioneer gymnasts also won three of the four events and the all-around to snap a two-meet losing streak.
Auburn (2-5) recently fell to No. 7 Oklahoma, 195.000-191.500 at home last Friday. Auburn freshman Julie Dwyer recorded her fifth all-around crown of the 2005 season, finishing the meet with a 39.375 which ties her for 10th all-time on the Auburn all-around charts.
Following Sunday?s meet, the Wildcats return home for senior night and play host to Central Michigan and Michigan State on Friday in Memorial Coliseum. Meet time is set for 7:30 p.m. and live stats will be available on ukathletics.com.
