No. 7 Kentucky utilized a solid doubles and singles effort to set aside No. 65 Ohio State by a 6-1 count Sunday at the Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.
The Cats (11-3) followed an easy sweep of doubles play with a dominant singles effort. Senior All-American Aibika Kalsarieva increased the Wildcat lead to 2-0 at No. 1 singles with a straight-set win over Emily DeCamilla, and sophomore Sarah Foster scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lindsey Adams at second singles to give the Cats a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Kim Coventry clinched the Kentucky victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Anna Volberg at the third singles position. Junior Danielle Petrisko and sophomore Liis Sober added straight-set wins at Nos. five and six, respectively, to cap the Wildcat scoring.
Kentucky improves to 11-1 in its series with Ohio State (3-6) and has won five-consecutive matches, each against Big-Ten opponents. UK surrendered only four points during its? Big-Ten stretch against Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio State. UK kicks off conference play this Friday, Mar. 4 against Mississippi State in Lexington.
