The University of Kentucky men?s golf team returns to action this weekend, Mar. 18-20, at the Hall of Fame Invitational in Houston, Texas. The No. 22 Wildcats are looking for their second straight tournament title after taking home the hardware at the Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate in Dorado, Puerto Rico, in their last outing.
Several nationally ranked teams will compete in Houston, including No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 4 New Mexico, No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 9 Texas Christian, No. 11 Texas, No. 15 UNLV and No. 21 Arizona. Arkansas, California, Gusta Vus Adolphus, Houston, Oklahoma, Penn State, Purdue, Rice, South Carolina at Aiken, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt make up the rest of the 19-team field.
“This is the first of our most important tournaments of the spring,? said head coach Brian Craig. ?The Hall of Fame has a very good field and is played on a terrific course. Hopefully, we will be able to maintain the momentum that we started with our win in Puerto Rico last week.”
Senior John Holmes, who finished second overall at the Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate, will lead the Wildcats this weekend. Seniors Brandon Waldrop, Matt Wells and Mark Blakefield will also compete for UK this weekend. Junior Matt Kohn and sophomore Cale Barr will battle for the fifth spot on the Wildcat roster.
The three-day tournament kicks off Friday, Mar. 18, with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. Play begins at the same time each day at the Redstone Golf Club.
