The Kentucky men?s golf team shot a team score of 299 to stand in 11th place after one round of play at the Hall of Fame Invitational Friday at Redstone Golf Club in Humble, Texas. Texas Christian jumped out to an early lead over the rest of the field with a first-round total of 285.

TCU is two shots ahead of UNLV and five strokes in front of Wake Forest. New Mexico is tied for fourth with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State at 4-over. The Aggies of Texas A&M came in at seventh with a 6-over round. Arizona (+8), Vanderbilt (+9) and Texas (+10) round out the top 10 after the first day. Kentucky – who posted an 11-over-par 299, Houston and Purdue came in at 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively, after leaving only a single shot of separation between each of the three. Division II defending champion South Carolina-Aiken (+20) finished the day at No. 14, followed by Arkansas and Penn State, who tied for 15th at 21-over-par. Rice (+24) , defending Division I champion California (+25) and reigning Division III champ Gustavus Adolphus (+38) round out the field after a blustery first day at Redstone Golf Club.

The Demon Deacons Reifers led all individuals with 6-under 66. The only other player to break 70 was New Mexico?s Charlie Beljan, who shot 69. Seven players are deadlocked at third after checking in with 70s while two other golfers broke par with 71s.

Junior Matt Kohn leads the Wildcats after firing a first-round 73 to tie for 19th in the individual standings. Seniors Matt Wells and John Holmes each shot a three-over-par 75 to tie for 38th in the overall ranks. Senior Mark Blakefield posted a score of 76 to tie for 52nd, while senior Brandon Waldrop ranks 63rd overall with a first-round total of 77.

Second round action tees off with a shotgun start Saturday at 7:30 a.m.
