ATLANTA, Ga. ? The University of Kentucky track and field squads captured two titles and three regional qualifying marks at the Yellow Jacket Invitational Saturday in Atlanta, Ga. Seniors Brooke Patterson and Allison Grace took top honors in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters, respectively. Patterson finished with a season-best regional qualifying time of 2:09.45, while Grace crossed the finish line with a time of 4:35.32.
Senior Jeff Chakouian continued the Cats success with a second-place regional qualifying toss of 64-06 ? in the shot put. Junior Dedrick Tillerson recorded the Cats third regional qualifying mark by running a personal-best time of 52.51 in the men?s 400-meter hurdles.
Freshman Liliane Sparkes added to UK?s top finishes in the women?s 1,500 meters with a fourth-place personal-best time of 4:37.55. Georganne Way improved her 800-meter time to 2:11.47 to finish seventh, while Lavera Morris, also in the 800 meters, took sixth with a time of 2:11.47. Two fifth-place finishes came from junior Rachel Kohler who tied for fifth with a leap of 5-5 in the high jump and senior Gennessa Guzman who threw 173-03 in the women?s hammer throw.
On the men?s side senior Kris Landers finished sixth with a time of 1:52.45 in the men?s 800-meters, while sophomore Andy Fryman took eighth with a toss of 162-00 in the discus. Freshman Justin Harrison and Dan Hutson captured the Wildcats two other top-ten finishes in the 200 meters and 400 meters, respectively. Harrison crossed the finish line with a time of 21.73, while Huston finished with a time of 48.10.
The Cats return to action April 8-9 at the SEC-Big 10 Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn.
