LEXINGTON ? Kentucky sophomore John Shelby has named to the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll for the week of May 3, it was announced Tuesday.

The CBF is a charitable educational organization that aims to provide an aggressive and enduring advocacy for the college game. It releases a National Honor Roll each week throughout the season to salute the finest performances of the prior week.

Shelby notched game-winning RBIs in each of Kentucky?s weekend wins over No. 15 Arkansas as the Wildcats won their first series of the year.

Overall, Shelby batted .400 in four games last week with three home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored while stealing two bases. He did not commit an error in 25 chances and turned three double plays while playing second base.

In Saturday?s 11-8 victory over the Razorbacks , Shelby belted a three home runs, which is one shy of the Southeastern Conference record, en route to setting new career highs for total bases with 13 and RBIs with five. He also tied his career high with four runs scored while going 4-for-4 at the plate.

Shelby?s first two home runs on Saturday were each two-run shots that helped the Wildcats build an 8-1 lead through three innings. However, Arkansas cut the lead to one before Shelby went to work again. He singled, stole a base and scored to make it 9-7 and added a solo home run later to extend the lead to 10-7.

In the series-clinching victory on Sunday, Shelby drove in a run and scored once in Kentucky?s five-run fourth inning that propelled the Wildcats to the win.

Earlier this week, Shelby was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for his performance this week.
