The Kentucky men?s golf team shot 14-over par in rain-soaked conditions Friday to move into the top five and advance to the final day of the NCAA Championships at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Hunt Valley, Md. Kentucky?s round of 294 was the second-lowest of the day. Senior John Holmes shot one-under par 69 to lead the Wildcats. He sits at one-over par for the tournament, which ties him for fourth place overall.

Holmes had five birdies on the day, including three in the final nine holes. Mark Blakefield was three-over par (73) and posted two birdies on the afternoon. Matt Wells added a four-over par 74, his best round of the tournament, while Brandon Waldrop finished eight-over par (78) after counting two bogeys and a double bogey on the final four holes.

Holmes shot an even 70 in Wednesday?s first round before posting a two-over par 72 Thursday. With his one-under par performance Friday, he?s in the hunt for the individual title. Pepperdine?s Michael Putnam currently leads the field with a three-round total of three-under par (207). Georgia Tech?s Roberto Castro and Augusta State?s Major Manning are tied for second with two-under par scores of 208.

The field was cut to fifteen teams after Friday?s round was complete. Georgia Southern was the final team to make the cut with a 43-over par 883. Georgia currently sits in first place with a 15-over par 855. Tennessee was the only other SEC team to make the cut.

The Wildcats are looking to better their eighth-place finish in last year?s tournament. Kentucky is competing in its third-consecutive NCAA Championship and its third in four years under Coach Brian Craig.
