The Kentucky men?s tennis team opens its fall season Friday at the 19th Annual Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational on the Middle Tennessee campus in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The tournament runs through Sunday and will be played at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
Head coach Dennis Emery, who is entering his 24th year at Kentucky, is sending his top two returning ranked players, Nate Emge and Alex Hume, as well as newcomer freshman Bruno Agostinelli, of Ontario, Canada.
?Our players are really excited to begin this season,? Emery said. ?This tournament has five players ranked in the top-100 and is a good way to begin the year.?
Senior Hume returns after a successful season in which he went 27-12 in singles competition. He is the Cats highest ranked player entering this season at No. 68.
The 94th-ranked Emge is the other experienced player who will be competing this weekend.
The two seniors will be joined by Agostinelli, who is competing in his first collegiate tournament.
The Wildcats are coming off a 21-10 season in which they made the regional finals at the NCAA Championships. The 2004-05 UK squad finished No. 15 in the nation, marking the 20th top-25 finish in Emery?s 23 years at UK.
