The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team kept its unbeaten streak alive tonight, Sept. 16, defeating Marshall by a final score of 3-1. The Wildcats improve to 4-0-3 on the year, while the Thundering Herd falls to 1-5.

With the victory, head coach Warren Lipka earned his 149th career win. The two-time SEC Coach of the Year?s career mark now stands at 149-107-18 (.575).

The Wildcats outshot the Herd by a 25-3 margin and had 11 corner kicks while Marshall took none.

The Cats got on the board first as Courtney McCrudden scored her second goal of the season during the 8th minute. The senior took a pass from Kristin Moyer and took it down the field to put Kentucky on top by a goal.

UK made it 2-0 when the duo hooked up again. This time, Moyer headed a ball past the MU goalie on a corner kick by McCrudden during the 21st minute.

The Herd cut the margin to one when Erin Johnson scored on a free kick in the 35th minute to make it a 2-1 UK lead at the half.

Kentucky added to its lead in the 78th minute when Kelsey Fenix became the tenth Wildcat to score a goal this season when she belted a rebound off Kristin Kover?s shot into the goal to account for the 3-1 final score. Kover was credited with an assist on the goal.

?I thought in the first half we were a little lethargic in our play and Marshall had a good game plan,? said Lipka. ?We did better in the second half with better pass movement. We definitely had more chances and we just have to finish them now.?

The Wildcats return to action Sunday, Sept. 18, when they travel to take on Western Kentucky in their final non-conference match of the season. Start time is set for 3 p.m. in Bowling Green, Ky.
