Bruno Agostinelli and Alex Hume both won their flights Sunday to give the Kentucky men?s tennis a successful weekend at the Middle Tennessee State Fall Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Agostinelli, from Niagara Falls, Canada, appearing in first collegiate tournament as freshman won the men?s A2 singles flight bracket. Agostinelli swept Vanderbilt?s Ryan Preston in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. Agostinelli has now won the first four matches of his young career.
Senior Hume won the Flight A1 consolation bracket after defeating Middle Tennessee?s Marco Born in three sets. Hume, the 68th-ranked player in the nation, took the first set 6-2, before dropping the second 1-6. In the final set, Hume won the match by turning away Born 10-7. Hume, who lost his first match Friday, won three straight to take the consolation bracket.
?I think this is a good way for Bruno to begin his career by overcoming an injury and winning a tough match in the finals,? head coach Dennis Emery said. ?I?m also very happy for Alex Hume who had a good tournament coming back from a lot of rehab this summer on his back.?
The Wildcats will return to action at the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va., that will run Friday, Sept. 23-25.
