Women's Golf

LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky women?s golf team will host its only home event of the season, the Wildcat Fall Invitational, this weekend at the University Club?s Big Blue Course. Play in the 15-team tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. EDT Saturday with a shotgun start and continues Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

?We?re excited about hosting this tournament at our home course,? UK head coach Stephanie Barker said. ?We had two great rounds at the Cardinal Cup last weekend, but we really are focusing as a team on putting three good rounds together in a tournament. It?s always nice to be playing on your home course.?

Participating teams include: UAB, Ball State, Birmingham Southern, East Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, Florida, Memphis, Miami, Mississippi State, Murray State, North Carolina, UNC-Greensboro, Richmond and Southern Mississippi.

The Wildcats are coming off a second place finish at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of Louisville Sept. 19-20. Senior Erin Faulkner (Bowling Green, Ky.) led the Cats, tying for a second-place finish at the event. Faulkner shot a three-round total of 218 (74-69-75) to finish 2-over-par.

Kentucky finished fourth at the Wildcat Fall Invitational last season, firing a three-day total of 938 (316-312-310). The Cats were led by sophomore Elizabeth Dotson?s (White Bluff, Tenn.) 12-over-par 228, which left her in a tie for seventh place.

Mississippi State claimed the 2004 event with an 898 (302-299-297). The Bulldogs? Amanda Mathis claimed the tournament crown last year with a 3-over-par 219 (73-71-75).

The Wildcats have won the Wildcat Fall Invitational 10 times since 1979.
