Three members of the Kentucky women?s tennis team advanced Friday to the round of 32 at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships. The No. 9 duo in the country of Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk also advanced to the round of 16 in doubles play.
Senior Danielle Petrisko continued her strong run through the singles draw by defeating Elon?s Evin Prelec in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-0. Petrisko won two matches on Thursday to advance to main draw competition.
The 15th-ranked Coventry advanced in her first match of the tournament by beating Longwood?s Romana Bucur. Coventry dismissed Bucur in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
Junior Schwenk also advanced in her opening match of the tournament by defeating Wake Forest?s Sierra Poske in straight sets 7-6, 7-5.
In doubles action, the No. 2 seeded Coventry and Schwenk beat Duke?s Lauren Archer and Parker Goyer 8-0 to advance to the round of 16.
The team of Caroline Winebrenner and Liis Sober lost to Duke?s Cleia Deltour and Tara Iyer 8-3 in their first match of the tournament, while Petrisko and her doubles partner Lara Maurer lost to Duke?s Melissa Mang and Jenny Zika 8-2.
