Kentucky junior Kim Coventry won two matches Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals at ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. Coventry and her doubles partner Joelle Schwenk also advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw.
Coventry advanced by beating both of her opponents in straight sets. In Coventry?s first match of the day, she beat North Carolina?s Charlie Tansill 6-4, 7-6. Later in the day, Coventry then defeated South Carolina?s Natasha Vuckovic 6-3, 6-3.
In other Wildcat singles action, senior Danielle Petrisko?s run ended when she was dismissed by North Carolina?s Austin Smith 7-5, 7-6, in the round of 32. Petrisko won three matches in this tournament starting in the qualifying draw.
Junior Schwenk lost in the round of 32 to Duke?s Tara Iyer in a hard fought three set match 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
The No. 9 duo of Coventry and Schwenk continued their strong tournament play by defeating Eastern Carolina?s Gillie Bailey and Kristen Buchanan 8-3 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Coventry will start her singles match Sunday at 12:30 p.m. EDT. The start of the doubles match has yet to be determined. Fans can check ukathletics.com for recaps of the day?s action.
