COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The Kentucky rifle team continued its torrid start on Sunday with a 4638-4507 victory over Ohio State to win its second straight match.

Led by a pair of freshmen, the Wildcats (2-1) matched their season-opening score to record the victory. Andrew Roland paced UK in smallbore with a 587 while Jason Dardas fired a match-high 585.

It is the first time Roland has led the team in any event this year. The two joined sophomore Ray Geyer as three shooters to register an aggregate total of better than 1160. Geyer shot a 585 air rifle and 579 smallbore.

Junior Amy Sowash, who had led the team in air rifle average, shot a 577 in the event.

Ryan Kohatsu led the way for the Buckeyes with a 583 smallbore and 579 air rifle score. However, he was the only Ohio State shooter to crack 575 in either gun.

Kentucky returns to action on Oct. 28 when it travels to Alaska-Fairbanks, which has won six national championships in the past seven years.
