The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team will play its final home game of the 2005 season on Friday night, Oct. 21, as part of a men?s and women?s doubleheader. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex where the Cats will host No. 23 Mississippi.
Seniors Liz Butler, Kristen Jedlo, Kristin Moyer, Courtney McCrudden, Ashley Schillig and Jen Weakley will be honored in pre-game activities as they play their final home game at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Rebels are ranked 23rd in the nation and lead the SEC West with a 13-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in conference play. Ole Miss is riding a six-game winning streak and hasn?t lost a game since falling 1-0 at Tennessee on Sept. 25. This marks the 10th meeting between the SEC foes. The Rebels have won the last two meetings, but the Cats hold a 6-3 lead in the all time series.
The Wildcats (6-3-7, 2-3-3 SEC) will then hit the road for a brief one-game road trip at Mississippi State (3-9-3, 2-6 SEC). The two will face off on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Starkville. UK leads 4-2 in the series with MSU. The Bulldogs won the last time the two faced off on Oct. 24, 2004, by a final of 1-0.
UK dropped its first home contest of the season in its last outing, Oct. 16, with a 2-1 loss to the No. 13 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols. The Cats are now 5-1-4 in home games this season.
McCrudden and sophomore Sarah Gaunt continue to lead the UK offense and are tied for the team-lead with six goals apiece. Eleven players have scored at least one goal for the Cats this season, including four freshmen in Nicola Holdsworth, Kate Hughes, Kristin Kover and Rachel Ulrich.
Ole Miss has already clinched a berth in the upcoming SEC Tournament, Nov. 3-6, in Orange Beach, Ala. UK holds the SEC record after appearing in all 12 conference tournaments. Kentucky is currently ranked seventh in the SEC with a 2-3-3 conference record. The league?s top eight teams will advance to the tournament.
?This is an important game for us in order to go on to postseason play,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?It?s a big game, but it?s also a special night for our seniors.?
