The Kentucky men?s tennis team wrapped up their fall season Sunday by winning five matches at the Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Ga.
In singles action, four Wildcats posted victories including freshman Bruno Agostinelli who defeated Ole Miss? Bram Ten Berge in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Three other Wildcats claimed wins against opponents from South Carolina. Senior Carey Rubin soundly beat Joe Veeder 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Shane Collins defeated Kazuya Otani in straight sets 6-4, 6-1, while fellow freshman Kenny Hodge won by default over Geraldo Knorr.
Senior Nate Emge dropped his only singles match of the tournament to Ryan Sherry of Florida, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. Fellow senior Alex Hume also fell to Florida?s Stefan Tell 6-3, 7-5, while sophomore Marcus Sundh lost to Ole Miss? Jakob Klaeson in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Sundh and Collins picked up the lone doubles win for the Wildcats by defeating Thomas Stoddard and Otani of South Carolina 8-4. Hume and Emge fell to Florida?s Tell and Sherry 9-8, while Rubin and Hodge lost to Ole Miss? Ten Berge and Klaeson 8-5.
?This tournament was a great way for us to finish our fall schedule because we got face some great competition,? head coach Dennis Emery said. ?We got to see our doubles teams perform really well in this tournament, which is encouraging going into the spring season.?
?I really liked how our team continued to improve and compete hard throughout this fall.?
