LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky rifle team fired its best score of the year on Saturday as it routed Xavier, 4689-4539, at Buell Armory.

Junior Amy Sowash and freshman Jason Dardas led the way as the duo finished 1-2 in the match in both the air rifle and smallbore events. The Wildcats? score was their highest total since the current format was instituted prior to last season.

Sowash shot a season-best 593 on air rifle to just outdo Dardas, who scored a 592. Their scores led the way as UK tallied a 2351 in the event, its highest score ever in the current format. All four Wildcats recorded a 580 or better.

It was Dardas on top in smallbore as he posted a 588 to Sowash?s 586. Kentucky had a 2338 as a team in the event.

All eight scores UK counted were higher than all eight counted scores for Xavier.

Kentucky returns to action next weekend when it competes in the Withrow Invitational on Sunday.
