As the calendar turns to February, the honors for former Wildcat tennis standout Jesse Witten continue to roll in. Witten, only the 11th player in collegiate history to be a four-time All-American, was named last week as a practice partner for this year?s Davis Cup team.

The Davis Cup is in its 105th year and is the world?s largest international team competition. Witten will be helping players such as Andy Roddick, James Blake, as well as Mike and Bob Ryan, prepare for competition.

?This is another great honor for Jesse (Witten) as he starts his pro career,? head coach Dennis Emery said. ?It (being a practice partner) is a ticket that all the great players punch on their way to the top of the ladder. It will be Jesse?s job to provide good competition for the players as they prepare to play in San Diego.”

Earlier this year, Witten won his second professional tournament by capturing the Grand Slam Men?s Futures of Tampa in Tampa, Fla., and was named to the 2006 USTA Rookie Pro Team.

The next round of Davis Cup matches are scheduled to take place Feb. 12 with the U.S. taking on Romania.
