MURRAY ? The Kentucky rifle team continued its torrid shooting over the weekend to win the NRA Sectional with a 4,679 that beat out four other teams.
The sectional also acts as an NCAA Championships qualifier. The Wildcats score should push UK into the top four in the nation heading into the championships, which takes place on March 10-11 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Junior Amy Sowash led a stellar UK trio in air rifle with a 592, just besting Jason Dardas and Vicki Goss?s matching 589s to win the individual title. The high scores led the Wildcats to a stellar 2346.
In smallbore, Dardas won the individual title with a 586, barely topping fellow UK freshman Andrew Roland, who fired a 585.
Murray State was Kentucky?s closest competitor, shooting a 4669. Memphis, UT-Martin and West Virginia were well back of the top two finishers.
Kentucky returns to action in two weeks for the Great American Rifle Conference championships.
