Coral Gables, Fla. – The No. 30 Kentucky women?s tennis team fell to No. 15 Miami 5-2 Thursday in Coral Gables, Fla. The Cats will continue their play in the sunshine state when they travel to Tampa on Saturday to tangle with 44th-ranked South Florida.
Miami got off to a strong start by sweeping all three doubles matches against Kentucky to clinch the doubles point.
In singles action, the Hurricanes won four of six matches to give them their fifth victory of the season. At the No. 1 spot, junior Kim Coventry saw her four-match winning streak snapped against Miami?s Audra Cohen. The No. 22 Coventry fell to the 13th-ranked Cohen in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
The Cats did rebound to pick up a pair of victories at the No.2 and No. 3 spots in the lineup. Junior Lara Maurer defeated the 84th-ranked Melissa Applebaum 7-6, 1-6, 13-11. Junior Joelle Schwenk picked up the Cats? second win by sweeping the Canes? Audrey Banada 6-2, 6-4.
