Lexington, Ky. ? Fresh off a doubleheader sweep of Indiana State and Murray State on Wednesday, the No. 29 Kentucky men?s tennis team returns to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center beginning Friday at 2:30 p.m. EST against Southeastern Conference rival LSU. The Cats will return to the Boone Center on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST to battle No. 20 Arkansas.
The Cats (9-3, 2-0 SEC) are currently on a five-match winning streak. Last weekend, UK opened SEC play on the road with wins over No. 56 Auburn and No. 50 Alabama.
Kentucky has begun the dual-match season by receiving tremendous performances from its ranked players, No. 63 Bruno Agostinelli and No. 100 Alex Hume, as well as sophomore Marcus Sundh.
Agostinelli, a freshman from Niagara Falls, Canada, has a 9-1 record in dual matches this season and is currently on a six-match winning streak.
Hume is currently a perfect 9-0 in dual-match play and is riding a career-best 11 match winning streak. The Alexandria, Va., native is tied with Agostinelli for the team lead in wins with 23.
Rounding out the Cats? trio of players with 20 wins on the season is Sundh. The Stockholm, Sweden, native notched his 19th and 20th wins against Indiana State and Murray State on Wednesday. Sundh is one win away from tying his season-best match winning streak of six.
LSU enters Friday?s match ranked 17th in the nation. The Tigers are 8-5 (2-1 SEC) with four wins against ranked opponents (No. 20 Arkansas, No. 28 Michigan, No. 40 Colorado and No. 55 Tennessee). LSU is led by the nation?s 20th-ranked player in Ken Skupski. In January, Skupski claimed victory at the SEC Indoor Championships hosted by UK.
Arkansas will also present a tough challenge for the Cats with four ranked singles players. The Razorbacks are 10-4 (1-2 SEC) on the season with wins over No. 11 Virginia, No. 36 Tulsa, No. 39 Oklahoma and No. 55 Tennessee.
