LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky baseball team had a watershed moment in more places than on the field this weekend when the 21st-ranked UK swept No. 7 South Carolina.
The Wildcats drew 6,510 fans over the weekend to Cliff Hagan Stadium to set a school record for attendance in a three-game series. The record included a crowd of 2,871 on Saturday afternoon in UK?s dramatic 15-12 victory in which the team rallied from a six-run deficit in the final three innings to win.
Kentucky drew 2,059 fans on Sunday to clinch the sweep. The smallest crowd of the weekend, 1,580, came on Friday night after heavy rains delayed the game for more than an hour.
This season, UK has drawn more than 2,000 fans three times after breaking the 1,000-fan plateau just once last season in a win over Auburn at Applebee?s Park.
The Wildcats return to action at home this week with a doubleheader against Murray State, beginning at 3 p.m. The next home SEC series is against Ole Miss from May 5-7.
