Men's Golf

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Georgia head coach Chris Haack, Alabama’s Joseph Sykora, along with Georgia teammates Chris Kirk and Brian Harman headline the 2006 Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Awards announced today. Kentucky sophomore Brad Doster was the lone Wildcat to earn All-SEC honors, being named to the Second Team by the league office.

Doster led the Wildcats with a 72.90 stroke average and four top 10 finishes this season. The Winter Park, Fla., native fired a career-best 66 in the final round of last weekend?s SEC Championship to tie for 14th at the conference tournament.

Doster turned his best career finish as he tied for third at the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., Mar. 18-19, with a five-under par score of 211 (69-70-72). He eagled the par-five seven in the third and final round this weekend and had seven birdies during the tournament. Doster led the Wildcats to a third place finish in the event, defeating five other Southeastern Conference schools in the process and was named SEC Golfer of the Week for his efforts.

“I can’t say enough about what Brad has done to lead our team this spring season,” said head coach Brian Craig. “He has played extremely well and has also carried himself with class on the golf course and in the community. This is a well deserved honor that will hopefully be the first of many during Brad’s career as a Wildcat.”

Doster and the Wildcats will learn their fate for the postseason when teams for the regionals are announced on May 8.
