The University of Kentucky gymnastics squad finished the 2006 campaign ranked 12th in the country for average attendance (2,457). The feat marked the fifth consecutive season the Cats were ranked among the top 12.
Since 2001, when Kentucky ranked 32nd in average attendance (702), the Wildcats have climbed the charts to place among the nation?s leaders. In 2002, 2003 and 2005, UK ranked tenth, while in 2004, the Cats reached a program-best mark of ninth (2,967).
This past season, the Cats packed the gym for the 23rd annual Excite Nite and produced the sixth-largest crowd nationally (5,800) for 2006. Attendance for the meet would have been larger but restrictions were put on the crowd allotment due to the construction of the new auxiliary gym being added to Memorial Coliseum.
Seven of the top 12 attendance averages and five of the top six single-meet crowds were from Southeastern Conference schools.
