SUNRIVER, Ore. ? The University of Kentucky men?s golf team moved up a spot on Thursday and are now tied for fifth after two rounds at the 109th NCAA Division I Men?s Golf Championships at Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Ore. The Cats were six-under in the second round to bring their two-day total to 570 (283-287) and tie for fifth with Clemson at six under par.
Washington leads the 30-team field. The Huskies shot six-under par on Thursday and hold the lead by three strokes at 13-under par after two rounds of play. Arizona State is now tied with Wake Forest (277-289) for second with identical totals of 566. Florida is fourth at seven-under par after posting a two-day score of 569 (284-285), while Clemson (282-288) and Kentucky round out the top five.
Persistent rain showers and a brief afternoon downpour caused play to be suspended for almost thirty minutes just as UK reached the course. The soggy weather didn?t damper the play of Andy Winings who fired a three-under par 69 to stand tied for sixth, four strokes behind Wake Forest?s Kyle Reifers who leads the individual standings with a total of 135 (70-72). Winings had four birdies and is now five-under par (70-69) through two rounds of play.
Sophomore Brad Doster had three birdies and finished with a one-under 70. Doster is now two-over for the tournament with a total of 146 (76-70). Dan Woltman and Matt Kohn each carded day two scores of 74 and are each tied for 42nd overall with scores of 145 (71-74). Woltman also had four birdies, while Kohn recorded a pair. Tyler Wilson rounded out the scoring for the Cats with a score of 80 to bring his total score to 151 (71-80).
The third round is slated for Friday, with the pairings determined by scores from the first two rounds. The top teams will tee off first and will be followed by each team in order of standings.
The Wildcats are set to tee off in Friday?s third round beginning with Wilson at 10:20 a.m. ET. The championship tournament consists of 30 teams and the nation’s top six individuals not on those teams. Following Friday?s third round, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on an advancing team.
