LEXINGTON ? Former standout Kentucky pitcher Brandon Webb has been named to the 2006 Major League Baseball All-Star team, it was announced. Webb will suit up for the National League at Pittsburgh?s PNC Park where the game will take place on July 11.

The honor is a first for Webb and he is the first former Kentucky letterman to be selected for the MLB All-Star team.

Webb has been dominant as a right-handed ace for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Ashland Ky., native performed brilliantly through the first half of the season, hurling 132.1 innings and striking out 97. Webb, 6-foot-2, 230 lbs., has compiled a 9-3 record while posting a 2.73 ERA. Webb has tossed three complete games this season.

Webb was named the Baseball America Rookie of the Year following the 2003 campaign in which he posted a 2.84 ERA.

The eighth-round selection by the Diamondbacks in the 2000 MLB Draft, was a three-year letter winner for the Wildcats from 1998-2000. Webb ranks third in school annals with 259 strikeouts.
