LEXINGTON, Ky.? University of Kentucky men?s tennis coach Dennis Emery announced the enrollment of two transfer students Peter Bjork and William Ward Wednesday.
Ward enters as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining. He transfers from Baylor where he played a key role in the Bears? Final Four run in 2006. Ward primarily played in the No. 3-4 singles? slot and in doubles action he appeared in all three positions. He ranked in the top 20 in the world as an 18-year-old.
Bjork transfers for his senior season from Colorado University. The Buffalos dropped its program at the end of the spring season. Bjork spearheaded Colorado?s best year ever in 2006, as the Buffalos reached the second round of the NCAA tournament and finished with a No. 23 ranking. He played in the No. 2-3 singles? spots during the run.
?These are the type of players we were looking for as we were forced to replace three of our top four players for the second season in a row,? said Emery. ?William and Peter bring a wealth of experience at the top of the lineup playing within premier programs. Both athletes are fierce competitors and our staff is looking forward to working with them in our quest to get back in the championship hunt.?
