LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Kentucky women?s golf team embarks on a short road trip to Louisville on Monday to participate in the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup Sept. 18-19. The University of Louisville?s Cardinal Club plays host to the event. Play begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Monday with 36 holes, and continues with the tournament?s final 18 holes on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

Live statistics for the two-day event will be available at www.golfstat.com. Participating teams in the 14-team field include: Augusta State, Cincinnati, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, Louisville, Maryland, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina-Wilmington, South Florida, Southern Mississippi and the Scandinavian Amateurs.

In the first tournament of the season, the Cats placed 18th in an 18-team field at the College of Charleston?s Cougar Classic, a disappointing start for Coach Stephanie Barker?s club. Freshman Erica Still led the Wildcats in scoring, the second freshman in three seasons to lead the team in its inaugural tournament. Still fired a nine-over-par 225 good for a tie for 32nd place. Her 72 on the opening 18 holes was the team?s low score for the tournament. Junior Beth Felts finished second on the team with a tie for 68th after scoring a three-round total 237 (+21).

Freshman Jessica Smith, a Louisville native will make her second career start on familiar territory. Smith was the 2006 Kentucky State Women?s Amateur runner-up. She carded a 22-over-par in her collegiate debut.

The Cardinal Cup is being played at the par-72, 6,181-yard University Golf Course. Kentucky earned a second-place finish at last season?s event, behind Georgia State. Senior Erin Faulkner took home second-place individual honors.
