Men's Golf

The University of Kentucky men?s golf team wrapped up its fall season with a top 10 finish at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Orlando, Fla. The Wildcats finished seventh in the 18-team field with a three-round score of 896 (300-290-306) at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club.

Texas held on to win the tournament with a score of 876, followed by Florida at 888. Texas A&M jumped 13 spots on the final day to finish third with a score of 890, while Oklahoma State (892) and Georgia (893) rounded out the top five.

Georgia?s Brian Harman won the individual title by one stroke over Wake Forest?s Dustin Groves. Harman finished at even par with a score of 216 (70-71-75).

Junior Brad Doster led the Wildcats and recorded his third top 10 of the fall season with a tenth-place overall finish. Doster fired a third-round 76 to finish at 221 (77-68-76) for the tournament. Freshman Alex Volpenhein was one stroke behind Doster and finished tied for 19th with a total of 222 (75-72-75). Sophomore Andy Winings was just outside of the top 20 after firing a third-round 78 to finish 23rd in the standings with a score of 223 (71-74-78). Freshman Derek Oldham carded a 77 in the third and final round to tie for 53rd in his first collegiate tournament with a total of 230 (77-76-77), while senior Andrew Stephens finished at 236 (78-80-78) to tie for 75th overall.

?This was not a bad way to finish the fall season for our team,? said head coach Brian Craig. ?This was a terrific field on a very difficult course and I am proud of the way we battled. We will now go into the off-season on a positive note and, after a little time off, start preparing for what looks to be a promising spring season.?

The Wildcats? next tournament action will be when they open the spring season, Feb. 10-11, at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
