Quarterback Andre? Woodson was named National Player of the Week by Sports Illustrated On Campus in recognition of his performance in Kentucky?s 38-26 win over Vanderbilt.
Woodson, a junior from Radcliff, Ky., completed 29-of-42 passes for 450 yards and four touchdowns, setting career highs for completions and yards and tying his personal best for TD passes. With the Wildcats trailing in the fourth quarter, he led three consecutive touchdown drives to clinch the game. He directed UK to 597 yards total offense, 203 more yards than Vanderbilt had allowed in any game this year.
In addition, Woodson was chosen SEC Offensive Player of the Week by the league office, was written about by Stewart Mandel of SI.com in his column ?Five Things We Learned This Weekend,? and was one of the five ?Davis Dandies? of the week in college football by Keenan Davis of NFL.com.
Lane, Mills, Tamme Elected Academic All-District: Three Kentucky Wildcats, offensive lineman Hayden Lane, defensive tackle Lamar Mills, and tight end Jacob Tamme, have been elected Academic All-District IV and have advanced to the national ballot for Academic All-America.
District IV is comprised of schools in the states of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama. In order to qualify for Academic All-America, a player must be a sophomore or higher in academic and athletic standing; have a career grade-point average of 3.2 or higher; and be a starter or key reserve. The Academic All-America team is sponsored by ESPN The Magazine and voting is handled by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Here is the information on the three Wildcat honorees:
Hayden Lane (Lawrenceville, Ga.) graduated in three years with a 3.95 GPA and a double major in Anthropology and Classics; he is currently in his second year in his master?s in History with a 3.86 GPA. On the field, Lane has started 26 games in the offensive line during his Wildcat career. Lamar Mills (Slidell, La.) graduated in three years with a 3.21 GPA and a degree in Marketing; currently in his second year of master?s study with a 3.27 GPA in UK?s Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce. Mills has 22 tackles on the season, including three for loss, and has one forced fumble. Jacob Tamme (Danville, Ky.) graduated in three years with a 3.82 GPA and a degree in Integrated Strategic Communications; he is in his first semester working on a master?s degree in Business Administration. Tamme has caught 21 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown this year.
