LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Kentucky track and field squads opened their 2007 indoor season, recording several personal-bests Friday evening in the annual two-day Kentucky Invitational at E.J. Nutter Field House. Day one consisted of the majority of the field events, which conclude Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. EST.

Senior Andy Fryman (Maysville, Ky.) and junior Alek Grietens (Nipomo, Calif.) each recorded personal-best marks in the weight throw. Fryman recorded a toss of 60-0 to finish in fifth, while Grietens had a throw of 56-0 which was good for seventh place.

On the women?s side, Kentucky continued its improvement in the pole vault as sophomore Maggie Tincher (Winfield, W.Va.) recorded a personal-best jump of 10-11.75 to finish 10th.

Sophomore Ashley Muffet (North Canton, Ohio) led a young women?s squad in the weight throw, finishing sixth with a mark of 60-1. Freshman Kristen Smith (Marietta, Ga.) finished 13th in the event with a mark of 53-0, while fellow rookie Emily Bernhardt (Marietta, Ga.) was 18th with a 50-0.

The teams also participated in the discus, which is a non-sanctioned event for indoor track and field, to close out the night. Fryman recorded a personal-best mark of 53.69 in the event.

Kentucky concludes action in the two-day Kentucky Invitational on Saturday at the E.J. Nutter Field House. Activities get underway at 10:30 a.m. EST with admission free to the public. Live statistics will be available at ukathletics.com.
