LEXINGTON ? The 19th-ranked Kentucky women?s tennis team ran its record to a perfect 4-0 with a pair of solid victories over No. 60 Marshall, 4-3, and Tennessee-Chattanooga, 7-0, on Saturday at the Boone Tennis Complex.

?I?m really proud of the way we fought today,? Kentucky head coach Carlos Drada said. ?These results should help us move forward the rest of the season and we look forward to our next matches.?

The victory over the Thundering Herd marked UK?s first against a ranked foe this season. After clinching a tough doubles point, the Wildcats sealed the victory with quick straight set victories on courts two, three and four.

Freshman Sarah Woestmann continued her stellar day with a second straight 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. Meanwhile senior Joelle Schwenk, ranked 60th nationally, and sophomore coasted to 6-3, 6-2, and 6-3, 6-4, victories, respectively.

With the match already settled, Marshall scored its first point on court one as 18th-ranked Kellie Smith took down Kim Coventry in straight sets. Jessica Giugglioli just missed her upset bid of No. 94 Thaddea Lock, 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7) on court five. The Herd made it 4-3 when Jeanne Schwartz avenged a defeat this past fall to Christine Johnston with a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (6) win.

The Wildcats cruised past an undermanned Mocs squad earlier in the afternoon, dropping just 13 total games in nine matches (six singles, three doubles). Woestmann and senior Caroline Winebrenner each served up 6-0, 6-0 wins while Schwenk, Escamilla and Giugglioli posted easy 6-1, 6-0 wins.

Only Coventry at No. 1 was relatively tested, and she got by 6-2, 6-4. Chattanooga was forced to play without its top player, an injured Anastasia Zhulova.

??UT-Chattanooga had some unfortunate luck with injured players, but they helped us get ready for Marshall,? Drada said. ?We played hard on all the courts and it was good to have all the players focus on their strategies in a big win over Marshall.?

Kentucky takes two weeks off before returning to action on Feb. 9 against Harvard at Cambridge, Mass. The match is the first of four in a row for UK on the road. The Wildcats finally return home on Feb. 23 to host South Florida.
