LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky junior pitcher Brock Baber has been named to the watch list for the third annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the organization announced.

Baber, a right-hander from Sharpsburg, Ky., currently ranks fifth (10) on the career Kentucky save list. The sidewinder posted a solid season during the Wildcats Southeastern Conference Championship season, earning four wins, four saves, and a 3.10 ERA. Baber appeared in the most games of the staff (23), and tossed 29 innings, striking out 11.

The Wildcats have garnered several preseason honors heading into 2007, including sluggers Sean Coughlin and Collin Cowgill, who were named to the NCBWA All-American team. The two combined to blast 33 home runs and drive in 116 runs a year ago while batting in a potent Wildcat lineup. Joining the duo on the NCBWA All-American squad was right-hander Greg Dombrowski. The junior paced the UK staff a year ago, posting 10 wins and a 2.83 ERA in 101.2 innings of work.

Kentucky will open its season with a three-game set at Furman (Feb. 16-18) in Greenville S.C. before kicking off a 20-game homestand beginning with in-state rival Murray State on Feb. 21.
