LEXINGTON ? Freshman Emilie Rymer scored 9.8 or better on three events en route to a 38.800 all-around score on Friday night against top-ranked Florida to win the first ?Heart Award,? given to the gymnast who displays the most heart each meet.
Rymer ranked second among UK performers on both vault and beam ? tying a career high in the event — with a 9.8 on each. She also set a career high on the uneven bars with a 9.825. Her all-around score was also second on the squad and helped the Wildcats to a season-high score of 194.800.
This season, Rymer has competed in the all-around in five of six meets and has become one of UK?s best and most consistent gymnasts as the season has moved on. Over the past three meets, she has eight scores of 9.8 or better.
The Heart Award is voted on by teammates following each meet and the winning gymnast is recognized by the Wildcat coaching staff. Kentucky will continue to honor a gymnast for each meet in the remainder of the 2007 season.
