LEXINGTON ? After running its winning streak to nine and extending their school record start to 15-1, the Kentucky women?s tennis team is holding down the No. 23 position in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, released Tuesday.
Despite the stellar overall record and a 6-0 mark in the Southeastern Conference, UK slipped one spot in the ranking from its previous spot. Over the last two weeks, Kentucky has fallen six spots while amassing a trio of dominating wins over Hawaii, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. The ITA uses a computer formula that assigns points to quality wins and ranks its teams.
The Wildcats put their ranking and win streak on the line with their two toughest tests to date. On Friday, UK hits the road to face fourth-ranked Georgia, which was No. 1 last week. Two days later, Kentucky meets No. 26 Tennessee in Knoxville in yet another crucial SEC Eastern Division battle.
Singles and doubles rankings are released every other week, Tuesday?s release marking an off week.
