LEXINGTON ? The 28th-ranked Kentucky women?s tennis team aims to end a four-match skid when it hosts Eastern Kentucky and Cincinnati in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at the Boone Tennis Center.
Since getting off to the best start in the history of the program, UK has dropped four-straight hard-fought matches in Southeastern Conference action. The Wildcats venture outside league play for the first time in nearly a month when it faces the Colonels at 1 p.m. Kentucky meets the Bearcats at 6 p.m.
The Wildcats hold an impressive 9-1 non-conference mark this season and has won 12 of 13 in a row at home overall. Despite a loss last time out, UK played one of its best matches of the year on Sunday in a narrow 4-3 defeat at the hands of fourth-ranked Florida.
In the outing, both Kim Coventry and Sarah Woestmann pulled off upsets of nationally ranked players in straight sets. It was the second ranked win for Woestmann in her last four outings. Kentucky also got a big win from Whitney Spencer at No. 6 in the match. The freshman from West Palm Beach, Fla., has 21 wins on the year, trailing only 110th-ranked Joelle Schwenk for the team lead.
The matches mark the second-to-last regular-season playing date for UK this year. The Wildcats wrap up the regular season against SEC foe Vanderbilt on Saturday.
