LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky hit three home runs, including catcher Sean Coughlin?s eighth-inning grand slam to left-center field, and UK?s relief pitching tossed 5 2/3 strong innings Sunday in a 13-5 win against Georgia at Cliff Hagan Stadium to give the Wildcats their first series win against the Bulldogs since 2003.

Brian Spear and Ryan Wilkes recorded round-trippers for the Wildcats (30-13-1, 9-11-1 Southeastern Conference), who secured back-to-back 30-win seasons since 1993-94. Coughlin, whose four-bagger was UK?s second of the season, tied his career high with five RBI. Wilkes plated three runs and right fielder Mike Brown recorded his sixth three-hit game of the season by going 3-for-5 at the plate.

Kentucky did the majority of its damage with the long ball as 10 of the squad?s 13 runs came as a result of the team?s three home runs. Three Wildcats recorded multi-hit games and UK charted 10 or more hits for the fourth time in the team?s last five games.

A trio of Kentucky relief pitchers ? James Paxton, Dewayne Oxford and Aaron Lovett – combined for five strikeouts and allowed just one run the remainder of the game. Starter Greg Dombrowski was chased from the game after allowing four runs that gave the Bulldogs an early 4-1 advantage. Oxford was credited with the win, pitching two innings of three-hit baseball to improve to 4-1, while Aaron Lovett earned his fourth save of the year.

The Wildcats exploded for four runs in the fourth inning to reclaim the lead from Georgia (17-28, 7-14 SEC). The frame was highlighted by Wilkes? three-run round tripper to left-center field. The Wildcats then added eight runs combined over their final two frames. Given each team?s proficiency at overcoming deficits in this weekend?s series, the run support was anything but superfluous.

First baseman Sawyer Carroll extended his hitting streak to a squad-best 11 games and connected on his SEC-leading 20th double of the season in the game. The Wildcats were proficient on the base paths as the squad was 4-for-4 in stolen-base opportunities in the game.

Georgia starter Dean Weaver took the loss to drop to 1-3 on the season. He was pulled from the game in favor of middle-reliever Ryan Woolley after allowing the go-ahead home run to Wilkes from which the Bulldogs never recovered.

The Wildcats jumped on the board early in the game when center fielder Antone DeJesus was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Carroll then roped his 20th double of the season off the wall in left-center field to plate DeJesus and give UK an early 1-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs knotted the score in their half of the second, as right fielder Matt Olson singled to second base to open the frame and came around to score on a double play later in the inning.

Georgia took the lead in the third inning when center fielder Jonathan Wyatt walked with one out and shortstop Gordon Beckham launched his fourth home run of the weekend to extend the UGA lead to 3-1.

In the fourth, left fielder Travis Parrott led off the inning with a single through the right side and later scored on an RBI single to left field by Wyatt to give Georgia a 4-1 advantage.

Kentucky exploded for four runs in the fourth inning to reclaim the lead at 5-4. Coughlin was hit by a pitch to open the frame and Spear followed with a walk. After a double by designated hitter Tyler Howe drove home Coughlin, Wilkes launched his second home run of the season. The three-run round-tripper was a 380-foot blast to left-center field.

Kentucky padded its lead with three runs in the seventh to take an 8-4 advantage. Brown began the inning with a sharp double down the left-field line. After a sacrifice bunt by DeJesus brought Brown to third, Carroll followed with a single. The tandem scored on Spear?s fifth home run of the season.

Wilkes led off the eighth inning with a single to second base, advanced to second on a passed ball and stole third. Later in the frame, a double by Brown plated Wilkes. DeJesus then walked and Carroll was intentionally walked to bring up Coughlin, one of 50 players on the mid-season Dick Howser Trophy watch list – an award annually give to the top college baseball player in the nation. The Morrison, Colo., native launched a 1-1 pitch over the left-center field wall to clear the bases and put the Wildcats up 13-4.

Georgia manufactured a run in the top of the ninth inning when Beckham singled to right-center with one out. He then advanced to third on a fielding error by Wilkes and scored on a sacrifice fly by Olson to narrow the Bulldogs? deficit to 13-5, but that would be as close as Georgia would come.

UK scored double-digit runs for the third time in an SEC game this season and the first time since scoring 10 runs in a 10-6 win at Mississippi State on March 31.

Kentucky returns to action May 4-6 when it travels to Columbia, S.C., for a three-game SEC series with the Gamecocks. The series begins at 7 p.m. EDT Friday at Sarge Frye Field and the game will be carried live on the Big Blue Sports Network ? WLAP 630-AM locally ? with Neil Price.
