Men's Tennis

LEXINGTON, Ky.?University of Kentucky men?s tennis coach Dennis Emery announced the signing of two additional recruits to the 2007 incoming freshmen class. Alberto Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) and Alexis Musialek (Dax, France) have inked National Letters of Intent joining early-signees Will Beck and Brad Cox.

Gonzalez is a native of Panama and has represented his country in the Davis Cup in multiple stints, including an additional appearance later this month. As a junior player, Gonzalez achieved a world ITA ranking of 45. In 2005, he reached the quarterfinals at the Eddie Herr Championships where he lost to world No. 1 Donald Young in three sets. Additionally, he fell in the final of the Caribbean ITF to Ryan Sweeting.

?Alberto is someone we targeted as a premier prospect,? said Emery. ?He is a super talent who should step right into our lineup in singles and doubles. He is an excellent prospect in a long line of players who have come to us from the heralded Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.?

Early-signee Brad Cox also comes to UK from the Bollettieri Tennis Academy.

Musialek was a quarterfinalist at the French Championships in singles and finales of the doubles match in 2005. Musialek has been coached by his father Henre Musialek throughout his junior career.

?Alexis is a baseline player who is a great competitor,? Emery said. ?He is a solid player who Coach Kauffmann feels has a good upside.?

Emery and his staff are excited with the prospects of their four signees, who make up one of the elite rated classes in the nation.

?We wanted to dramatically improve our overall talent level in singles and doubles,? Emery said. ?We have done that with this class. These four guys are great players, but they all have tremendous character adding to our excitement.?
