University of Kentucky senior linebacker Wesley Woodyard has sustained a fracture in his left hand and is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.

Woodyard incurred the injury Thursday, July 19, when the Wildcats were going through offense vs. defense pass practice.

The surgery will be performed at the UK Chandler Hospital. If the procedure goes as expected, Woodyard will be in a cast for approximately six weeks. He should be able to practice and play games in the cast, Brooks said, although Woodyard could be limited in his participation during the early days of preseason practice. If all goes well, he will be able to discard the cast by mid-September.

Because of the surgery, Woodyard will not participate in Southeastern Conference Media Days on Wed. July 25. Junior free safety Marcus McClinton will replace Woodyard.
