Kentucky women?s soccer head coach Warren Lipka completed his staff by announcing the hiring of Matt Kellogg as a second assistant.
Kellogg spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Western Michigan. He also worked with the Broncos? men?s and women?s teams on a volunteer basis in 2004 and played a key role in the program?s summer camps for the past two years.
?I?m excited about joining an already well established staff and working under Warren, who I have a tremendous amount of respect for,? said Kellogg. ?I feel I can learn a lot from him and gain from his experience in the game. I also think this will be a great opportunity to move from the Mid-American Conference to the SEC which is arguably one of the top conferences in any sport in the country. It?s certainly an exciting time to become a part of the history and tradition of UK.?
?I think Matt is going to do a tremendous job of filling the role of training our goalkeepers,? said Wildcat head coach Warren Lipka. ?He has a strong background in training in that area to go along with successful results. In addition he has good experience in the area of recruiting and the day-to-day operation of a soccer program. He did an outstanding job for Western Michigan and we?re happy to have him as a part of the UK family and the soccer program.?
Kellogg was heavily involved in the West Michigan soccer community for several years. He held coaching positions with the Michigan Olympic Development Program, Kalamazoo Kingdom and Plainwell High School. He also served as an assistant coach for the 1989 birth-year ODP class, who he helped coach to the 2006 ODP regional championship as well as a third place finish at the 2007 ODP National Championship. He also spent this summer with the 1994 birth-year Michigan ODP class.
Prior to his time at Western Michigan, Kellogg served as the head women?s coach at Kalamazoo College in 2003. Eight of the student-athletes he recruited went on to earn all-conference accolades.
A native of East Lansing, Mich., Kellogg was a member of the men?s soccer team (1996-98) at Butler University, where he graduated with a degree in marketing in 2000. He also earned a master?s in sports administration from WMU in 2005.
Additionally, he is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and holds a National “C” License.
