MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Kentucky men?s soccer team, winners of two of its last three, returns to conference action on Saturday as it travels to Memphis, Tenn., for an 8 p.m. EDT matchup with the Memphis Tigers.
Kentucky (3-6-2, 1-1-0 C-USA) enters the contest having won the last two meetings with Memphis. Last season, UK notched a 3-1 win in Lexington over the Tigers. Forward Mark Halma got the first goal of the game in the 35th minute and departed senior Riley O?Neill netted two goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Kentucky has notched two wins in its last three games, pulling out wins over state rival Western Kentucky and conference foe UAB. On Wednesday, UK dropped its second conference match of the season, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of No. 14 Tulsa.
Memphis (5-2-3, 0-0-2 C-USA) enters the contest having just dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 10 Creighton. The Tigers opened its season with a 1-0 win over Louisville and a 2-1 decision over Evansville. In conference action, Memphis has put together two ties, a 1-1 tie with UCF and a 3-3 tie with Tulsa.
Leading the way for the Tigers has been Jared Britcher, who leads the club with 11 points (4 goals/3 assists). Ryan Ruble and Kevin Walsh have each netted three goals and Sean Goulding paces the club with five assists. In between the pipes has been Tyler Strom, who has posted a 1.12 goals against average, saving 36 shots and notching two clean sheets.
