NASHVILLE ? The Kentucky women?s tennis concluded a successful showing at the June Stewart Invitational on Sunday at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center.
The Wildcats won two of their three doubles matches on the day as Carolina Escamilla (Medellin, Columbia) and Christine Johnston (Columbus, Ohio) made quick work of Middle Tennessee State?s Stephanie Parkison and Elvira Yusupova, 8-0 before Jessica Giuggioli (Turin Italy) and Alaina Trgovich (Munster, Ind.) dispatched Indiana?s Sigrid Fischer and Lindsey Stuckey, 8-6. Freshmen Megan Broderick (Tampa, Fla.) and Lauren Meier (Woodstock, Ga.) fell to Arizona State?s Micaela Hein and Wendy Pilecka, 9-7.
Giuggioli and Johnson each picked up singles wins on Sunday as Giuggioli downed Indiana?s Myriam Sopel, 6-3, 6-3 and Johnston swept Arizona State?s Amanda Martin, 6-0, 6-0. The Sun Devils? Kelcy McKenna topped Broderick, 6-2, 6-0 and Pilecka defeated Trgovich, 6-3, 6-3. Escamilla fell to Hein, 6-3.
Kentucky returns to action Nov. 1 when it travels to Auburn, Ala., to participate in the four-day Southeastern Conference Fall Coaches? Classic hosted by Auburn University.
