LINCOLN, Neb. — Sarah Broeker, Logan Fox, and Ray Geyer all posted personal bests to lead the Kentucky rifle team to a 4673-4607 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, on Friday in Lincoln, Neb.

?Overall, I was really pleased with the team today,? Kentucky head coach Harry Mullins said. ?This being our first conference match of the season, I was really pleased with the focus and intensity that the team showed. Nebraska is going to end up being one of the top five or six teams in the country this year, which makes this a good win for the team.?

Kentucky (2-0, 1-0 Great American Rifle Conference) got strong performances from nearly its entire roster, posting a 2332 smallbore total and a 2341 air rifle score, outshooting Nebraska?s 2285 smallbore and 2322 air rifle score.

?We had three shooters on the first team break 1170 in their total scores, which put us in a good position,? Mullins said. ?The team really worked hard and posted what should be the highest score in the country recorded this year. One thing that impressed me after the match was that the team really felt that they left some points on the board which tells me that they are going to continue working to improve.?

Sophomore Jen Pason, the 2006-07 GARC Rookie of the Year, posted a 199 score in smallbore kneeling and Geyer totaled a 196 smallbore standing total. Broeker, who was shooting collegiately in her hometown of Lincoln for the first time in her career, responded brilliantly with a personal best 584 air rifle score.

Kentucky faces a daunting challenge on Saturday, as it faces the two-time defending NCAA Champion Alaska-Fairbanks.

?This is a tough two-day stretch with us facing two very good teams,? Mullins concluded. ?Tomorrow will present an extremely tough challenge as we face one Alaska-Fairbanks. We will need to come out and show the same kind of intensity and focus that we showed today if we are going to perform up to our abilities tomorrow.?
