LEXINGTON, Ky.? The University of Kentucky men?s and women?s swimming and diving team return to the water in an intrastate match-up with the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday, hosted by Louisville.
The Kentucky men (1-2) have enjoyed a week of rest after opening up the season with two meets in 24 hours. The Wildcats were led by senior Will Vietti who notched three wins in the four breaststroke events a week ago. Also having a good start to the season, are senior Grant Nelson, sophomores Kyle Greene and Eric McGinnis and junior Shane Eliason.
Freshman diver Stephen Andrews enjoyed an impressive start to his career winning one event, and placing no lower than second in any event in his opening two meets as a collegiate athlete.
The UK women (1-3) are coming off a loss to Florida on Thursday at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. Sophomore Megan Pulskamp claimed a personal best mark in the 200-fly in her second place finish. Divers Kari Retrum and Jessie Snowden claimed the one-meter and three-meter, respectively to pace the Blue and White. UK also got a two-win performance out of senior Jenny Bradford, while her sister Heather Bradford used a season-best time in the 100-fly to sweep the sprint events for the Wildcats.
Kentucky?s relays have been a major highlight thus far in the opening of the season. The women have won four events, including a sweep against Florida and Virginia Tech.
The UK men and women have never dropped a meet to the Cardinals under Coach Gary Conelly?s watch. Last season on senior day, the Wildcat men took the win with a 181-106 score, while the women defeated their state rival 170-125.
