The Kentucky women?s basketball team concludes preseason play Monday when the Wildcats play host to the Ohio Legends. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EDT and the game will be carried live on the Big Blue Sports Network (radio) with Neil Price. The live streaming video broadcast also will be available on , the subscription video portion of UKAthletics.com. The game will be open to the public free of charge with seating on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Ohio Legends? roster features former collegiate players from Akron, Arkansas-Pine Bluff Furman, Northern Illinois, Ohio, West Georgia and three players from Ohio State. The squad also includes former Wildcat great LaTonya McDole. The 6-1 forward played for UK from 1998-2002 and ranks 14th on the all-time scoring list with 1,180 career points.
?We are anxious to get back on the court again,? UK Coach Matthew Mitchell said. ?This Ohio Legends team is made up of solid former student-athletes, including LaTonya McDole who I know was a great player at Kentucky. They are coming off a six-point win at Xavier so we are going to have to get after it like we did against Kentucky Wesleyan. We need to work on giving great energy for 40 minutes. This is an experienced team we are facing and it will be a great test for us.?
This is the third all-time meeting against the Ohio Legends. Kentucky went 2-0 in those games, winning 76-62 in 2004-05 and 84-44 in 2005-06.
In UK?s first exhibition game last Thursday, four Wildcats scored in double-figures led by senior guard Samantha Mahoney?s (Detroit) 13 points. Sophomore guard Amani Franklin (Decatur, Ga.) came off the bench for 11 points and junior Carly Ormerod (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Victoria Dunlap (Nashville, Tenn.) added 10 apiece. Dunlap also posted a game-high 12 rebounds in the 83-61 victory.
