CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ? The Kentucky women?s tennis team utilized strong singles play to propel the Wildcats to an impressive opening day at the fourth-annual Kitty Harrison Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Each of the Wildcats won their singles matches in the opening round, while Lauren Meier, Megan Broderick, Alaina Trgovich, Carolina Escamilla and Jessica Guiggioli each won in the second round. Escamilla and Christine Johnston picked up UK?s lone doubles victory of the day over Miami?s Romy Fara and Caren Seenauth, 8-5.
This year’s event features a unique points system that will determine the Sunday singles matches, with players from throughout the country in action. The tournament is held in honor of Kitty Harrison, a former head coach of the women’s tennis team from 1977 to 1998. During her career, she led the Tar Heels to four ACC Championships.
