LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky junior center Alyssa Rice has been named one of five district II honorees to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Team for her strong performances on the court and in the classroom this season.
A two-year member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, Rice’s district honor automatically makes her eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team with a nation-wide vote to being next week.
To be nominated for the all-district team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at the position listed on the nomination form.
One of the vocal leaders on the team having played in all 25 games this season with 22 starts, Rice is averaging a career-high 21.6 minutes per game with 4.1 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game. The native of Reyonldsburg, Ohio, has played in 85 career games with 35 career starts. Currently, Rice ranks fourth on the team with 110 rebounds and second on the team with 17 blocks.
As the team’s representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, Rice also represented UK women’s basketball at the SEC Women’s Basketball Leadership Council earlier this offseason and was voted by her peers in the league as the vice chair of the council.
