LEXINGTON, Ky. — The UK gymnastics team (1-3 overall, 1-2 SEC) returns home to Memorial Coliseum Friday, Feb. 8, to host the No. 3 ranked Florida Gators. The Wildcats seek their second win after losing to No. 7 LSU in Baton Rouge last week.
Florida is 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC. The Gators most recently beat then No. 9 Arkansas in Gainesville 196.700-195.750. The Gators lead the nation on vault and balance beam with averages of 49.387 and 49.212, respectively.
In last week?s match-up vs. LSU, UK senior Kristen O?Shields returned to the beam, tying her season high score of 9.425. O?Shields had not competed since Jan. 12th against Auburn. She is also ranked in the nation?s top-25 on the floor exercise for the fourth consecutive week.
Sophomore Hillary Ferguson stood out against LSU on vault, scoring 9.850 tying her career high and receiving team top honors with sophomore Emily Green. Ferguson has been a strong competitor throughout the 2008 season, competing in the all-around in every meet.
The Florida meet is slated to begin on Friday at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. Admission is $5 and free to UK students. Girl Scouts who have not pre-registered will be admitted for free for wearing their uniform or tie-dyed t-shirts. Also there will be FREE winter headbands for the first 150 fans.
